2 Easy Ways To Inner Peace + How Dolphins Helped Me Find Joy

In that evening, I was sitting in the middle of the ocean, on a tiny mortar boat, with 3 others. We were waiting. Waiting for the dolphins. For them to come to the surface, make a few flips and entertain us. To our dismay, it was also pouring rain. Dark clouds across the Indian Ocean, cold breeze sweeping across our faces did not make the waiting any easy. The loud mortar boat, or the uncomfortable wooden seat were not exactly helping.

I did not drive 6 hours from the city of Colombo to sit on a wooden seat to experience almost agonizing pain in the butt, literally. So I decided. I decided to enjoy being in the middle of the ocean, to just sit still and be, whether or not the dolphins show.

Suddenly a sense of mystic sacredness touched the whole being. Overwhelmed by it, I marveled at the intensity of the joy of living, of breathing. I felt the kind of joy that knows no bound. The ecstatic joy was unbearably intensive. With it arose a new energy, an intoxication with heightened passion of life. As I sat there relishing the moment, a dolphin poked its cute head right near the boat where I was seated.

bottlenose-dolphin-58393_960_720

That was the first time I experienced Pure Joy. Completely exclusive of ego. The mind which usually wanders hither and thither was now in repose. It was however, momentary. Yet, a tiny part of all problems seemed to have vanished without a trace of residue. The journey to that moment was a long one. A story for another day, another time and probably another place. The journey from that moment to this day to tomorrow and days after are undefined. I do however, make daily efforts to remain in peace, to remain quiet. To (not) do, to (not) be. To be conscious. To be aware. Even after more than two years later, a calm sense of happiness have managed to prevail in my heart.

This blog was born from that place in my heart. You will see here all things that back intentional living. The kind of things that help hold your center. Things that makes you feel happy, and free.

dolphins-56953_960_720

So, what do I do daily to maintain that peace within? And what can you do to attain satsung yourself?

1.The “Okay” Meditation.
You have seen this one everywhere. Meditate. Create a space. Slow down. Etc etc. Yes, it can help. But what happens after you come out of meditation? As much as I love sitting down on the floor to connect with my soul, I also prefer to just be aware of my feelings, emotions, and thoughts. If I’m happy, “okay”. That’s great. If I’m sad, that’s “okay” too! Everything in life is temporary. So is the sadness you are feeling. Whatever your situation, circumstance in life, the moment you are “Okay” with it, is the moment you come to peace with it. It brings a sense of calm. With a calm mind you can think clearly for solutions if it’s something that needs solving. If not, you can just stay calm and let time take its toll until the situation surpasses. Meditation does not need special time or place. Go in to meditation from where you are right now.

2.Use tools to clear the energy.
When I just don’t feel like meditating I use different things to simply calm the nerves and energize the surrounding. Candles and incense are two of my favorites. Sandalwood has always had a profound effect on me. Helping me be calm and quiet inside, eventually, almost automatically, making me enter a meditative state.

The last time I told my friend to be “Okay”, she kind of flipped. But then came to realize that it was exactly what she needed to do. What are your thoughts on being “Okay” ?

A Metaphysical Fashion Guide To Beat Seasonal Affective Disorder

I love all things pumpkin flavored, orange leaves on the ground and even the cold breeze. But as much as I love the beautiful fall weather, this time of the year can be tricky with its lack of sunshine. If you are feeling a little blue and sad, well, there is a pretty good chance your case of sad is in fact S.A.D, Seasonal Affective Disorder. While its nothing to be alarmed of, we certainly can kick the blues brought on by the gloominess in style! My favorite way to beat the blues is to mix style and fashion with color therapy and metaphysical enhancements.

First on my list, intentional jewelry. I absolutely love this Gem + Remedy Bracelet for Positivity, Stability and Courage. This gorgeous aquamarine, lemon quartz and labrodarite beauty is the perfect blend of gemstone therapy this season.

The best and the easiest way to change your mood is to add a splash of color to your outfit with a yellow clutch. Color therapy suggests that yellow is associated with happiness, joy and energy. Yellow produces a warming effect and makes you feel cheerful, energetic and enthusiastic.

5f5a1445

Talking of color therapy, I love to add color to a dark and dull fall outfit with a vegetal green scarf. Green is known to be the color of life, renewal and energy and is also associated with growth and harmony.

img_4171

Hopefully, there won’t be any long lasting effects of S.A.D, but if you feel like you could use a remedy with a little extra strength, my go to intentional piece of jewelry is this naturally shed Antler Necklace.  Metaphysically, it represents strength, determination, grace, wisdom and is a symbol of life generation and renewal.

Lunar Living: Magical New Moon

Today is the day. Today is the day to release fears, dream big and commit to new plans. Why you may ask? Because it is a day of the New Moon.

Have you ever paid attention to the phases of the moon? Have our noticed the energy during a full moon or a new moon? Well, humans can’t really escape the influence of the moon. It is a common belief that the moon phases affects emotions. Whether you PMS more during full moon and go bat shit crazy or not, the moon certainly affects the weather and the environment around us.  In fact, the entire Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang is linked to the waxing and waning of the moon and the rise and fall of life- energy in humans. Hindu astrology places great importance on the moon phases as well, saying that people born during a waxing moon live longer. Buddhist practices encourage to mediate and deepen their spiritual practices on full moon as well.

Being that tonight is the New Moon, here are a few ways you can tap in to the new moon:

  • Dream massive. Write down a list of goals or things you would like to manifest.
  • Make personal changes. What are some new habits you would like to form in order to uplift and upgrade your life?
  • Take some time out for self examination in different areas of your life. Are you searching for love or new relationships, a new house, break habits or do you have any spiritual intentions to work towards?
  • New moon is a time for introversion. Take the next 48-72 hours to look within for answers and self-development. Once you have your list of goals and desires start working towards your new projects and plans. Work diligently towards them until the next full moon. Download a moon phases calendar or keep track of the moon cycle with a site like – TimeAndDate.com

To learn more about all the moon phases, check out the article on Lunar Living.

Happy New Moon my lovelies…

Lunar Living: How To Live By The Phases Of The Moon

Stay wild, moon child. Make your own magic.

I believe in magic. The magic that lies within us. The power that we inherent in our mind.

I believe that we have the power to shape our physiology and our psychology.

I believe that we can change our external and internal realities and manifest thoughts an desires in to tangible outcomes .

I believe in the unlimited powers of our subconscious minds.

Now this is not some new age version of the MLK speech. I’d rather dare not. What I’m trying to say is that we carry within our subconscious minds the power to do and achieve anything we want.

Yet, we have been conditioned through experiences and social norms to believe otherwise. If you have tried to achieve something you might feel is far from your reach, you know how mind and ego comes in to play to remind you why your dream is not achievable. At times like that, we can get our mind to let go of the limiting beliefs using various tools and techniques.

While my first and foremost tool to turn to is hypnosis to overcome mind limitations, I have noticed that some of the new age practices are just as powerful.

One of my favorite new age practices is Lunar Living. Lunar living is basically being more attentive to the phases of the moon. In fact, humans can’t really escape the influence of the moon.

So how can we use the phases of the moon to our advantage? I stumbled upon Lunar Living quite recently and have been paying attention to New moon and full moons in particular. However, there are a few more phases that fall in between.

Finding Your Purpose

What is the purpose of life? What is my purpose on earth? How do I find my purpose and fulfill it? These are all age old questions. But how do we know there is a purpose for all of us?

I used to question myself about my purpose pretty much every day for many years in my early twenties. It usually arose from a feeling of desperate sense of purposelessness. When life was less fun, when the days were spent doing nothing or achieving nothing.

So, if it was non achievement that led to question my purpose, then I must look deeper in to what achievement meant for me.

Ask the right questions from yourself to figure out your unique purpose.

If like me, you find achievement as a need for purpose, know that every person’s definition of achievement is different. This means that the purpose is a mind construct according to one’s desires, expectations.

What are your desires and expectations of life?

Life is two dimensional and therefore we have two lives to live. One is the Life with which we are born, the Original life.

The other is the individual life, which we have constructed for ourselves upon the original life. Let me say it differently.

The life we have received has no form, no qualities. It is the universal, natural and original life.

But one cannot live it without constructing an individual form. Without an individuality life will be like a vegetable. So you construct an individuality, which is your personality. It has self or the ego as its center.

So, on one hand you are formless, and on the other hand you are an individual. Am I making sense? Life demands that you be fair to both the dimensions.  If you confine to one dimension your life will be a fragment.

This is also why most of us crave for physical things and traditional achievement, like getting a raise, high performance at work, recognition while still yearning for a quieter, centered, slow, peaceful lifestyle.

Well, the next question should be, how can I be fair to my individual life as well as the original life?

For individual life, fulfill its needs and expectations. Fulfill   your physical needs, security needs, social needs such as recognition, acceptance, and emotional need like love, self-esteem, and sense of achievement, power and self-actualization needs.

Then, what are the needs of the Original life?

Its demand is ‘Live fully’ ‘Experience the joy of pure life,’ ‘Stay in tune with the Universal Life’. The original life is pushing you to experience the Highest Bliss of life.

Know that some are more bent to individual life. Some are more bent to Original life. It also depends according one’s stage of life. Find your place of balance. However, in my experience, the ultimate life fulfillment comes through living the original life.

Hope this helps you see the question of purpose in a new light. I would love to hear your thoughts. Please leave a comment and share your insights. How did you come to learn your purpose? If you are still in the process of uncovering your purpose, what are the questions you are asking yourself?

With lots of love and courage to sail on your soul journey,

Some Of My Favorite Healing Crystals & How I Use Them

My first ever piece of crystal jewelry was a clear quartz pendant I bought from a flea market during a family vacation in Singapore when I was fifteen. Regardless of how cheap and witchy it looked, I absolutely loved it. I really believed that it protected me from negative energy and it almost made me feel like I had super powers, like how the three sisters did in the TV show Charmed.

After so many years, I am still working on creating my crystals collection. But I do have a few absolute favorite healing crystals that I keep close to me. I use them for their metaphysical properties and their natural beauty.

How To Honor Your Body’s Need For Movement

Really, I love being a couch potato. My favorite yoga pose is Savasana. Simply lying down and doing nothing is the best thing you can do after a day of work and various stresses right? I also happen to love pizza. The combination of non-activity and massive amounts of cheese and carbs doesn’t take that long to show up on love handles and make you feel sluggish and even impact your self-confidence negatively.

Human body is designed to move. Whether it’s as part of an active lifestyle or a structured workout program, our bodies thrive on healthy movement and works best when it’s active. Being active is the best thing you can do for not only your body but also for your brain and psychological wellness.

I can list here all the benefits of physical activity. But I bet you know them already. You probably even know the consequences of poor physical activity.  So how can you reap the benefits of an active lifestyle? If you are lagging in this department by even a little bit, here are a few ideas on how you can honor the body’s need for movement:

1.Avoid sitting for too long
Ok, this is easy. No explanation necessary here, right?

2.Change your attitude about activity
Being active does not have to mean going to the gym 5-6 days a week and pumping heavy iron. Enjoy being in nature, take long walks or a quick morning jog before work. Stretch your muscles before bed. Simply move your body. Try out different classes at your local gym if you like the energy in group fitness classes.

3.Keep a dedicated time each day for activity
Yes, schedule time for activity. Write on your to do list and check it off when it’s done. If you like making lists, you know how satisfying it can be to check off an item.

4. Set targets related to staying active
Set a goal to run 1 mile, a 5k or heck, even a marathon. It could be something like doing 10 push ups a day too. Don’t forget to set a deadline as well. Celebrate when you accomplish them.

These are super simple ways to get ourselves to be active and stay motivated to live a healthy holistic life. Living a holistic lifestyle is all about balancing mind, body and soul needs.

What some of your tips to keep active? Share in the comments below!

Habits For Better Digestion

Hi there my loves!! If you have ever had to deal with an annoying bloated belly, this post is for you! Until recently, I thought I was not allergic to any food or medications. Turns out, I was wrong. Eating mindfully and being conscious of my body has paid off on its own. I realized that I am dairy intolerant.  Which means I have trouble digesting not only milk but also ice cream, cheese or anything with cheese, like pizza! *gasp! I love pizza! How can I not eat pizza? Or cheese quesadillas?? I love cheese so much, I swear I couldn’t live without it. But eating cheese also means that I have to deal with stomach pains and an uncomfortably large belly.

So I figured I need to manage my digestive system. After trying out numerous tricks ,tips and habits, I found a few that were really useful. If you have ever experienced bloating or any kind of digestive issue give these a try.

1.Eat Fiber

You know this already. But make sure you eat insoluble fiber. Insoluble fiber is a little hard to digest and adds bulk to the stools whereas soluble fiber draws in water and prevents stools that are too watery. Some good sources of insoluble fiber includes, whole grains, nuts and seeds, legumes, vegetables and wheat bran.

2. Stay away from high fat food

Fatty foods tend to slow down the digestive process, making you more prone to constipation. Instead, eat lean meats and pair your fatty food with high fiber food to help the digestive process.

3. Stay Hydrated

Water helps dissolve fats and fiber and allows the substances to pass through easily. Try to drink at least a gallon of water a day to aid the digestive system and also to manage weight.

4. Exercise

If you have ever gone on a run before going to the toilet you know the effect it has on your bowels. Keep active and get enough exercise regularly to keep moving your food through the digestive system and avoid constipation. You can also aid your digestion by taking a 15 min walk after eating.

5. Introduce gut friendly supplements to your food intake

My favorite supplement for digestion is Chlorophyll. I use liquid chlorophyll either in smoothies or simply mix a table spoon with water at least once a week. This helps move your bowels easily and it come packed with many other holistic benefits. You can also include a probiotic and a green tea supplement. Although I would personally prefer yogurt instead of a probiotic, and actual tea instead of a pill. Ginger tea with lemon is also a great cure for digestive health.

6. Release stress and negative emotions

Stress and anxiety always interferes with healthy digestion. If you have ever noticed heart burn, loss or increase in appetite when feeling sad, you already know that emotions do affect your body. Try to incorporate stress and negative emotion management techniques in to your daily life to release any negativity around you.

7. Practice mindfulness

Last but not least, be mindful of what you ingest your body with. Eat with mindfulness paying attention to each bite, chewing slowly and savoring each bite. Practice being present even while working and during your day to day activities.

Share your tips and tricks. Do you experience bloating? What is your go-to method to cure bloating?

Lots of love,
